A battery from Apple potentially destined for a future Apple Watch or AirPods charging case has passed through a Korean certification database. This comes after new a MacBook battery passed through international regulatory agencies earlier this week. The Apple Watch or AirPods battery was first shared on Twitter by the account @yabhishekhd. The accompanying regulatory documentation from the Korea Testing and Research Institute indicates that the battery has a model number of A2327, a capacity of 303....

This morning Apple is seeing downtime for a variety of services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple TV Channels, iTunes Store, and more. Update 1: The issues with Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager have been resolved. Update 2: All of Apple’s services have been restored. The issues that some Apple users are seeing today seem to be affecting more services than normal. We’ll often see issues with a few iCloud services and the like from time to time but today Apple is having trouble with its major services including Apple TV+, Apple TV Channels, Apple Music, the App Store, Mac App Store, Apple School Manager, and Apple Business Manager....

Update: iOS 13 beta 4 fixes this vulnerability. iOS 13 is still in beta and therefore bugs are to be expected, but a recently-discovered security vulnerability in the operating system is especially worth noting. This iOS 13 bug makes it easy for someone to gain access to the “Website & App Passwords” data in Settings. Essentially, when running iOS 13 developer beta 3 or the second public beta of iOS 13, it’s incredibly easy to bypass the Face ID or Touch ID authentication prompt in Settings when trying to access your iCloud Keychain passwords....

While an upcoming software update should soon eliminate the 1970 date bug, that doesn’t help if you currently have a bricked phone. There have been varying reports of fixes that do or don’t work, but experiments by Macnn suggest that two approaches do the trick – both of which are apparently being done by Genius bar staff when people take in their bricked phones. The ‘simple but not easy’ approach is to remove and replace the battery....

Regular readers will know that I still have a 17-inch MacBook Pro as my main computer. It’s almost five years old now, which is a relatively long time in Mac terms, and an absolute age for someone who usually does poorly when it comes to resisting shiny new tech. The Pixelmator team has today released an important update to Pixelmator Pro (currently $60), adding new cropping abilities that didn’t quite make the cut for the 1.0 release.
