When Apple unveiled its latest MacBook Pro models, making particular reference to their ability to drive multiple 4K and 5K monitors, some wondered whether the company was readying itself to exit the desktop market – as it has already done for displays. Even Apple’s own employees appeared to share this concern, with one asking on the company’s internal Apple Web system ‘Are Mac desktops strategic for us?’. Tim Cook was quick to offer reassurance, stating that the desktop market was ‘very strategic’ for Apple, and that the company has ‘great desktops in our roadmap....

Both adaptations of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary include flashbacks of the character Zelda, Rachel Creed’s sister. Played by Andrew Hubatsek in Mary Lambert’s 1989 adaptation and Alyssa Levine in the latest 2019 version, Zelda is one of the more disturbing elements in Pet Sematary - even in a story where the plot pivots around a zombie toddler on a killing spree (among other things)....

Starting today, Apple will be moving the iCloud data of Chinese customers to a server run by GCBD, a company owned by the provincial government … Apple first announced plans for the move last year, explaining that it was necessary to comply with new laws in China. The announcement, whose wording was almost certainly agreed with the Chinese government, phrased it in positive terms. The state-run Global Times similarly played up the claimed benefits, while acknowledging – but not actually addressing – privacy concerns....

Remember OS X? macOS Sierra is the new hotness, but OS X El Capitan has at least one more update left before the big name change takes place later this year. OS X 10.11.6 isn’t quit ready for prime time yet, but Apple has released the third beta version of the Mac software update for testing. Apple first started testing the Mac update back in May. Infamous patent troll VirnetX has formally asked a Texas court this week to order Apple to stop providing its FaceTime and iMessage features to customers. A major study of app usage has found that TikTok is almost as popular with kids as YouTube. The analysis of 60,000 families across the US, UK, and Spain found that kids age 4-15 spend 80 minutes a day watching TikTok videos, just five minutes less than they spend watching YouTube.
