The FaceTime selfie camera is a bit disappointing and the display contrast is weak, but the price points for 16GB and 64GB had a surprise and delight effect that I wasn’t expecting. So in one week I’ll make the giant leap back down from a 5.5-inch iPhone to a 4-inch one. Expect my thoughts on that experience in a couple of weeks. I’ll also share my iPhone SE review after some testing so send any questions or ideas over; I’m primarily interested in comparing it to the iPhone 5s and measuring the differences....

We already knew that the latest version of OS X Mavericks, version 10.9.3, has provided increased compatibility between certain Macs and 4K displays. It appears, though, that may be in part due to a change in how OS X allocates certain resources, specifically VRAM, on newer machines. As Mac4ever and MacGeneration point out, certain hardware including the MacBook Pro with Retina display from Late 2013 and the MacBook Air from 2013 and 2014 have all seen an increase in the maximum level of VRAM available from 1024MB to 1536MB …...

Telenor, which is owned and controlled by the Norwegian government, has faced significant backlash for weeks after it announced a decision to sell its telecom business in Myanmar to a notorious Lebanese company called M1 Group for $105 million. News outlets in Myanmar have reported that M1 is already telling regulators in the country that it plans to sell 80% of Telenor Myanmar to Shwe Byain Phyu, a company with deep, longstanding ties to the country’s brutal military, according to local activist group Justice for Myanmar....

The Apple Store on University Avenue in Palo Alto, California, was damaged early Sunday morning from an overnight hit and run burglary. Photos from the scene below show the damage… Parts of the store front were shattered when four suspects drove a Kia Soul through the glass exterior, according to The Mercury News: While barriers protect the glass store front from traffic accidents, the suspects were able to drive the SUV along the sidewalk and into the building to create a small opening in the glass panel....

Pandora has launched integrated support of its music service in the popular Waze navigation app for iOS. Going further, the Pandora app will now show Waze directions as well. Paper by FiftyThree, the popular iPad app for creating illustrations, is today finally getting its iOS 7 overhaul with version 1.6 introducing a complete redesign of the app. The company tells us the newly updated Paper app hitting the App Store today is “a blend of metaphor and flat aesthetics that required the team to update every visual asset in the app.” While the app maintains much of the look and feel of the previous version, you will notice that everything has been given a fresh coat of paint....

PayPal is quietly rolling out basic banking services to some of its U.S. customers, which include a debit card and the ability to deposit checks – alongside the loans which were already available. For customers who accept, their PayPal balances also become protected by Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC) insurance. Surprisingly, PayPal has found a way to do this without a U.S. banking license … The WSJ reports that it has partnered with a number of licensed banks whose own branding remains hidden....

Last week we noticed that Apple had started seeding Apple Watch review units to the media, and this evening the device is getting more promotion. On popular TV show “The Voice,” coach Pharrell Williams can clearly be seen wearing the Apple Watch. Likewise, Apple CEO Tim Cook is attending the NCCA national championship game with the Apple Watch clearly strapped on his wrist. Tim Cook appears to be wearing the stainless steel Apple Watch with a white sport band, while Pharrell appears to have on a Gold Edition model with a white sport band....

AllThingsD got a few words in with Apple Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller. The Apple keynoter extraordinaire defended the decision to keep Passbook NFC-free, noting it had all of the functionality needed. No word on whether or not iTunes is a monopoly. As for wireless charging, Schiller notes that the wireless charging systems still have to be plugged into the wall, so it’s not clear how much convenience they add....

Adobe has announced the availability of Photoshop native M1 Mac support in a day-one beta. It lacks a lot of the features in the release version, but the company says there are more on the way. While regular Apple Pay users tend to love the mobile wallet service, Apple so far hasn’t really hit mass-market adoption. Ironically, it seems a physical Apple Card could be the thing that changes that. Absolute numbers for Apple Pay sound impressive. Tim Cook announced that there were over a billion Apple Pay transactions in Q3 of 2018, for example. It’s been estimated that around a third of iPhone users have activated it....

Plex today announced plans to acquire streaming video news service Watchup and deliver the news content directly to the over 10 million people using its media server apps. The deal will bring video news content from CNN, CBS, Sky News, Euronews, the Wall Street Journal, and many others to Plex’s exiting user base. That means that Plex, which lets users store and watch video, photos, and music through media server and companion apps for computers and mobile devices, will also soon offer news content from Watchup....

Last year, the iPhone was the best-selling smartphone in the world, and Apple re-captured the crown for top smartphone maker in the United States last quarter with an estimated one-fifth of the market. On the heels of the latest US stimulus bill passing the House and Senate, Democrats revealed the Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act this morning. The proposed legislation includes an investment of $94 billion over the next three to four years to improve nationwide internet access, speeds, and offer subsidies. Reported by The Washington Post, the Accessible, Affordable Internet for All Act proposal was sponsored by 30 House and Senate Democrats....

Leaks regarding the iPhone 7 have been plentiful so far this year. We’ve seen a handful of schematic drawings, component pictures, and a few purported photos of the device itself. Now, another set of images has appeared on Chinese social media site Weibo claiming to show the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 7 variant. As has been reported in the past, the design is largely similar to that of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, but with a few tweaks....

Analysts appear to be piling in on Apple, with a second firm questioning ‘strategic issues’ within the company. Blizzard Entertainment, the creators of Diablo and WarCraft, have released Overwatch 2 for free to players everywhere. Not only does it have new enhanced visuals and new characters, but it will eventually have a story mode that fans have longed for.
