Paul Reubens wants to make a dark Pee-wee Herman movie. An oddly childlike grown man known for his guttural laugh and signature gray suit, the Pee-wee Herman character has been around since Reubens created him for his improv comedy group The Groundlings in the late ’70s. He was all the rage in the ’80s thanks to the Pee-wee’s Playhouse TV series and 1986 Tim Burton movie Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, but mostly went off the radar following Reubens’ adult theater scandal in the early ’90s....

Showtime released the trailer for the Penny Dreadful spinoff series, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. The highly anticipated spinoff series premiere is set for this April. The original Penny Dreadful was a supernatural horror series set in Victorian London. The show’s premise was presenting a new even darker spin on classic literary characters like Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Gray. Fans of the show were disappointed when the original series abruptly ended after the third season in 2016....

I love Philips Hue lights – we have an apartment full of them. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have their annoyances, and the single biggest one was what happened during a power outage … Once the power comes back on, all the lights switch themselves on – and at full brightness – no matter what state they were in before. I once had the power go out at around 3am and return a few minutes later....

It’s produced in the style of a cast album, and it combines studio recordings with live performances and interviews. It contains five episodes over two acts. During the show, Matt Hooper launches a variety show from a local coffee shop. I really enjoyed listening to the entire season as it’s a pretty unique concept, and the production value is fantastic....

Apple’s Powerbeats Pro totally wireless headphones are now on sale in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, as expected. Despite only launching in a single color, supply appears to be severely constrained. Beats is describing this as as a preorder window, so no one is getting instant shipping. The UK Apple Store is quoting 3-5 day availability, and in Germany and France, it is listed as between June 6 – June 11 delivery....

The Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium event is bringing the classic DC Comics team back into the spotlight. But they won’t be the only famous superheroes alive in DC’s future… now that an elderly Supergirl has been revealed in preview pages from the first issue. Writer Brian Michael Bendis is being backed up by an all-star team of artists for both halves of the two-part Millennium relaunch, establishing a new timeline for the DC Universe’s future before the Legion of Superheroes makes their full debut in their own series....

There’s simply no way to make Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season 6 fit with the MCU timeline. When Marvel Television launched Agents of SHIELD back in 2013, they envisioned the show as having the closest possible connections to the movies themselves. The first season kicked off with explicit references to events in the recently-released Iron Man 3, had a dedicated tie-in episode to Thor: The Dark World, and ultimately reoriented its entire plot around the fall of SHIELD in Captain America: The Winter Soldier....

A number of friends have recently forwarded me examples of some relatively convincing-looking phishing emails purporting to be from Apple. These include fake Apple Music subscriptions or purchases, inviting the user to login to the Apple website to cancel the transaction if it wasn’t made by them. Apple has a great support document on how to identify phishing emails (with others here and here). Parks and Rec is widely known for its colorful cast of characters. While the core crew working within Pawnee have become really well developed over the course of the show, there’s also plenty of other individuals we didn’t get to see a whole lot of. However, when these supporting characters were on-screen, there was something very hate-able about them. Whether they were completely wacky and over the top, or just terrible humans, both the characters in the show and the views hated them (although some we learned to love)....

Netflix has been the home of the popular and stylish early 20th century crime series outside of the UK since it began back in 2013, and in recent years Netflix has been able to deliver it to US audiences soon after it completes it initial run across the pond....

Peter Jackson is one of the most renowned directors working in Hollywood today. He might be most famous for bringing J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth to life on the big screen (in true George Lucas fashion, he did it perfectly with one trilogy and then divided fans with a prequel trilogy), but he’s directed a bunch of movies besides that. He actually got his start in the “splatter” subgenre of horror as a young filmmaker in New Zealand....

Blumhouse’s Black Christmas remake getting a PG-13 has received a lot of fan backlash, but an R-rating isn’t necessary for a horror movie to be good. To be fair, some of the criticism is understandable, to a point. Both 1974’s original Black Christmas movie and the sleazy but forgettable 2006 remake were rated R, and contained both bad language and graphic violence. Also, Black Christmas is a slasher film, and slashers are especially known for pushing the R-rating’s limits....

When we first started seeing renders based on the ‘notch’ design now expected for the iPhone 8, the cameras, sensors and speakers stood out as they were shown surrounded by visible screen. We yesterday saw a render based on a different approach: turning the status bar black so that it blends in with the notch, at least if the front of the phone is black. This provides a much neater look, though it could be argued that it detracts from the ultra-thin bezel appearance....

This is also true for up to a thousand recent photos from your iOS devices or computers that use iCloud’s Photostream feature. With the iCloud price tiers revealed yesterday, Federico Viticci of MacStories.net has done a nice job comparing Apple’s cloud storage offering to those of Dropbox and SugarSync, two of the most widely used cloud storage services out there....
