Yesterday’s dot-release of OS X 10.10.1 has seemingly failed to address the WiFi problems some users have been experiencing since upgrading to Yosemite, according to continuing posts on the Apple Support Communities. Despite the first bullet-point in the release notes for 10.10.1 reading ‘Improves WiFi reliability,’ many of those who had reported connection failures, dropped connections and slow speeds said that nothing had changed since upgrading to 10.10.1 … ComputerWorld quoted a number of illustrative complaints from a support thread containing more than 1,100 posts....

After introducing a new alarm clock feature for iPhone users back in December, streaming music service Pandora today updated its iPad app with the same functionality. The app already let users fall asleep to music using a Sleep Timer feature, and with today’s update to version 5.3 iPad users will now be able to set song or artist stations as alarm clocks. The alarm clock feature also packs in the usual snooze feature and can be configured from Settings inside the Pandora app....

President Barack Obama just began a Reddit “AMA” (ask me anything) that invites Internet folk to ask questions and hopefully get answers. He is notably using a MacBook Pro and Magic Mouse to work his magic. We previously noted his fondness of Apple, as he has been caught several times with a MacBook at his side. We reported back in June that Apple was dropping support for 32-bit applications altogether in iOS 11. In iOS 10, Apple displays a warning message and then allows the app to open; in iOS 11, the app won’t open at all. But with some 187,000 32-bit apps still in the App Store – amounting to around 8% of the total – now would be a good time to check your own apps....

Apple has started some temporary construction works at the Lane Technical College Prep High School ahead of its education focused event on Tuesday, March 27. Apple appears to be setting up some kind of stage/demo area outside the main school buildings. Pokémon Go is approaching its first anniversary later this summer and Niantic is kicking off a new in-game event to keep the momentum going. Pokémon Go will soon launch Adventure Week which includes perks at PokéStops, discounts in the shop, and bonus candy when walking buddy Pokémon. Popular drawing app Procreate has today released version 3 of their iPad app ($5.99) with a whole host of new features. This includes new brushes (including quick brush previewing before committing to canvas drawing), motion blur and perspective blur, simplified tap gestures and much more. Perhaps the most significant change is the addition of iPad Pro and Apple Pencil integration. Procreate now create images with up to 16,000 x 4000 resolution on Apple’s latest hardware, due to be released later in the month....

If you’re tempted by YouTube’s new ad-free subscription video service, YouTube Red, don’t subscribe to it via the iOS app. ArsTechnica reports that YouTube is taking the same approach as Spotify initially did to Apple’s 30% cut on in-app purchases: adding it to the monthly cost. ArsTechnica says that Apple users will “most likely” be able to sign-up instead on the web for the normal $9.99/month and then access the content via the app, and I’ve confirmed in a chat session with YouTube support that this is indeed the case....

If you’re having problems using Spotify right now, it’s not just you: many are reporting Spotify down when they try to play songs … The most common occurrence appears to be that a song plays for a few seconds, then stops. Just as one glitch with the 2018 MacBook Pro gets resolved, another one appears, although so far only for a very limited number of users. Some owners are reporting repeated kernel panics – as often as once or twice a day.
