Like most teen shows, Pretty Little Liars has many romances that fans have shipped over the years. Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario), Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), and Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) all have one major relationship that viewers can’t stop talking about. Despite the ups and downs that all of these pairs experience, it still feels like they’re soulmates.
But what about the couples who never paired up? Since there are so many characters on this popular show that provide endless possibilities for romance. Here are 10 couples who would have been awesome on Pretty Little Liars but never got together.
Jenna And Lucas
Lucas Gottesman (Brendan Robinson) and Jenna Marshall (Tammin Sursok) would be a perfect pair, as they’re both secretive and seem to have hidden lives that the other characters don’t know about. While Lucas has it bad for Hanna throughout the entire series, it would be really good for him to move on from her and become interested in someone else.
Jenna and Lucas could definitely be good for each other and teach each other some important lessons. For one thing, he could show her how to be a good, kind, person who doesn’t hold grudges or want to go after the liars. In turn, she could help build his self-confidence.
Hanna And Lucas
Okay, so while Lucas and Jenna would make a cute couple, it’s also true that it would be nice to see Lucas get the chance to date Hanna. He pines after her during all seven seasons and while fans know that she and Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn) are meant to be, they do take a few breaks throughout the series. There would have been a lot of opportunities for Lucas and Hanna to see if they had anything special.
Sure, a relationship between these two might be a little awkward at first since they were never super close friends, but it would have been interesting to see where a romantic storyline would take them. Perhaps Hanna would help bring Lucas out of his shell and he would help her become a bit more compassionate and less self-centered.
Holden And Aria
Holden Strauss (Shane Coffey) and Aria were good friends when they were growing up and although he wants them to start seeing each other, they never go on any dates because she’s hung up on her major love interest on the show, Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding).
Many fans love Aria and Ezra together, but just as many are concerned about their age difference, as he’s a teacher and she’s, of course, in high school. It would have been cool to see Aria dating someone else who was her own age and maybe a bit more appropriate. Holden and Aria both seem fairly emotional and sensitive, and they could be a great couple.
Mike And Sydney
Aria’s brother Mike (Cody Christian) may date Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish) but they’re a strange couple who don’t really make a whole lot of sense. Instead, it would be great if Mike dated Sydney Driscoll (Chloe Bridges).
This possible couple takes some suspension of disbelief, as Sydney is pretty evil and on the A Team. But if she wasn’t, she would be a great love interest for Mike. He always feels like he’s not quite living up to his potential and it also seems like his character would be developed a bit more if he had a more compelling love interest.
Bryon And Veronica
Aria’s dad Byron (Chad Lowe) and Spencer’s mom Veronica (Lesley Fera) would be another perfect couple on Pretty Little Liars because they would show that opposites attract. Both of them have marriage trouble at various points, and Spencer’s parents decide to get divorced. When Aria’s parents do get back together, and even get re-married, it doesn’t always feel like it was the right call. It’s a bit of a corny and rushed decision.
If Bryon and Veronica dated, they might both find real happiness and their different personalities could work well together. Byron needs to stick up for himself and be more assertive, and Veronica could stand to be a little quieter and listen more.
Spencer And Ezra
Okay, maybe this is a bit of a crazy idea, but it makes sense; Spencer and Ezra have a lot more in common than fans might originally think. Spencer definitely seems wise beyond her years and like she could be 30 years old even though she’s only in high school. She’s a lot more mature than Aria, who often treats her relationship with Ezra like he should just do whatever she wants.
Aria also spends a lot of time spying on Ezra’s various exes over the years and seems to act like she doesn’t trust him. Spencer has a stronger head on her shoulders and wouldn’t act that way. It would have been fascinating to see what a love story these two characters would have.
Jordan And Melissa
It’s shocking to fans when Hanna is engaged to Jordan Hobart (David Coussins) since he’s not Caleb. But he’s a sweet guy and it seems like he and Spencer’s older sister Melissa Hastings (Torrey DeVitto) would get along great.
Melissa hasn’t had much luck with romance, as her husband, Ian Thomas (Ryan Merriman) passes away and her other major relationship with Wren Kingston (Julian Morris) is a bad idea since he’s totally evil.
Alex And Aria
Spencer dates Alex Santiago (Diego Boneta) briefly but they don’t feel like a perfect match. Instead, it would have been awesome to see Alex and Aria together.
Because Alex doesn’t fit in with his peers, doesn’t care about material things, and has a great work ethic, he and Aria would totally hit it off. She’s exactly all of those things too, and it often feels like she’s super different from her wealthy classmates in Rosewood. Aria is always focused on the future, but she does get caught up in silly things that don’t matter sometimes.Alex would be help ground her.
Marco And Hanna
Marco Furey (Nicholas Gonzalez) is another PLL character who dates Spencer. He’s a detective who is smart, nice, and mature.
It would be cool to see Marco and Hanna together, as she has a tendency to drift around without planning for the future. Marco could inspire her to think about her goals and dreams, and while Caleb and Hanna are adorable together, it’s true that they can act a bit immaturely at times.
Ashley And Arthur
Hanna’s mom Ashley (Laura Leighton) spends a lot of time looking for love, and each time she thinks that she has found it, something goes wrong. She starts dating Darren Wilden (Bryce Johnson) only to end up blackmailing him — so romantic — and then even becomes engaged to Ted Wilson (Edward Kerr), but he’s the dad of Charlotte DiLaurentis, which makes things complicated.
It would have been cool to see Ashley find a solid, stable relationship, and she could have found that with the Rosewood High vice-principal, Arthur Hackett (John O’Brien).
