The winds are blowing in the direction the Marauders desire these days, as the most rebellious of the new X-Men teams is finding success upon the high seas. That goes for both of their missions: ensuring the free passage of black market medicines from the mutant homeland of Krakoa, and ferrying their mutant friends out of country’s actively preventing the use of Krakoan portals. And apparently, fans can add ‘smacking sexists back into place’ to the list of objectives, as well.
The strong women leading the books went without saying as the team assembled, with Emma Frost leading the initiative as part of Krakoan leadership, Kitty Pryde leading the Marauders on the front line, and Storm providing the muscle. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have back-up to belt out the Marauders’ new rallying song, either. But in the newest preview for Marauders #5, the suggestion that these piratesses are any less capable of fending for themselves is dealt with quickly. honestly, Sebastian Shaw should have known better.
The idea of progress and tolerance are a tricky thing in the X-Men universe at present, as the mutants themselves have embraced their identity as ‘above’ humanity. Not to mention former villains like Magneto and Apocalypse seeing a long awaited order take shape, as human beings around the world are starting to worship Marvel’s mutants like gods. But as opinions and perspectives change, one things remains certain: Sebastian Shaw’s views on women won’t get him anywhere, now that he’s outnumbered by them. Enjoy the preview pages below:
Marvel knew exactly what was going to happen when entrusting Marauders to writer Gerry Duggan, and recruiting the older, and far more dangerous Kate “Don’t Call Me Kitty” Pryde to lead the team. Even if a team-up with Emma Frost wasn’t what most readers expected, there seems to be no stopping this new alliance of X-Women. How Shinobi reacts (or more importantly, Sebastian) will have to wait for the full issue. For now, read on for the full credits and plot synopsis below:
