Sony has officially unveiled the new logo for the PlayStation 5, and it looks exactly like what fans have come to expect. Coming to consumers in less than twelve months, the PS5 has recently been rumored to have a surprising amount of backwards compatibilty, and although fans of the console’s previous iterations haven’t yet been shown any concrete specifications on Sony’s newest gaming machine, anticipation for the PS5’s Holiday 2020 release is high.
Although fans haven’t been able to see much of the PlayStation 5, that doesn’t mean game developers have had the same experience. Multiple leaks about PS5 dev kits have surfaced in the last few months, leading many to believe Sony’s upcoming console will launch with more exclusive and day one titles than usual. While customers will have to wait to see exactly which titles will be coming to the newest PlayStation video game console, one thing they won’t have to wait on anymore is the game’s logo.
Announced earlier this evening during Sony’s CES 2020 press conference, the new PlayStation 5 logo is expectantly simple and sleek, seemingly utilizing the same font that Sony has used for every new console since the PlayStation 2. There isn’t much information to be gleaned from the image itself, but the full Sony press conference, which was livestreamed online and is embedded via CNET’s YouTube below, shows the company has strong faith in the PlayStation brand and doesn’t seem to be interested in stopping or slowing down their push into the gaming marketplace anytime soon.
With a number of big-name releases coming in 2020, it’s not like the PS4 is in any danger of becoming obsolete, but the constant push from the industry to be the developer of the newest and best consoles is surely something which Sony has in the back of their minds, especially considering all of the rumors circulating about the power of Xbox’s new console. With over 100 million PlayStation 4’s sold during the console’s lifetime and an almost equal amount of players active each month, Sony has clear reason to be continually invested in the future of their gaming departments.
As 2020 progresses and the release of the PlayStation 5 console gets closer, players will likely receive more information regarding the specifications and possibilities of the platform, as well as more information about any PS5 launch titles. Sony has not only trademarked the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, and PS10 names moving forward, but they have also indicated that they will support the new PlayStation 5 console for a number of years moving forward, which suggests the company intends to stick around in the gaming landscape for quite some time. Hopefully, in the end this will mean more quality Sony titles like God of War and Death Stranding for everyone.
